Since 1989, the National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures (NALAC) has been the nation's premier nonprofit organization exclusively dedicated to promoting, advancing, cultivating, and fortifying the Latinx/é arts field via funding, leadership training, grants, convenings, research, and advocacy.
Who We Are
Our constituency is a multi-generational, multi-ethnic, multi-racial, and interdisciplinary community that includes thousands of Latinx/é artists and hundreds of nonprofit Latinx/é arts and cultural organizations in urban and rural communities. NALAC envisions a cultural landscape that fully values and integrates the essential contributions of an expanding Latinx/é arts field and its dynamic workforce. NALAC provides programs such as the National Leadership Institute, Advocacy Leadership Institute, and Intercultural Leadership Institute, providing grants to Latinx/é arts organizations and artists, and conducts research to inform the field.

The Job
The President and CEO will provide visionary leadership to advance NALAC’s mission, championing the Latinx arts and culture sector while ensuring the organization’s long-term sustainability and continued recognition of its 36-year history. Reporting to the Board of Directors, this dynamic and strategic leader will drive organizational growth, cultivate meaningful partnerships, and expand NALAC’s influence as a national advocate. The President and CEO will supervise strategy, operations, and resource development, fostering an inclusive and collaborative culture that reflects NALAC’s commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, access, and belonging. With a strong background in fundraising, stakeholder engagement, and team leadership, the ideal candidate will bring the expertise and passion necessary to inspire the field, strengthen financial and operational capacity, and position NALAC as a driving force in the national arts ecosystem.
Your Roles and Responsibilities
Strategic and Programmatic Leadership
- Provide dynamic and visionary leadership to advance NALAC’s mission, ensuring the organization remains a driving force in the Latinx arts and culture sector.
- Supervise the development and execution of strategic initiatives, fostering innovation while managing risk and ensuring long-term sustainability.
- Guide staff in delivering impactful programs, including the NALAC Leadership Institute, the Advocacy Leadership Institute, and the Intercultural Leadership Institute, strengthening professional development and field-wide convening.
- Inform the design, implementation, refinement, and/or adaptation of grantmaking strategies and in planning future program strategies.
- Stay informed of current events, developments, and issues in the field in order to maintain a balanced and objective perspective and approach to grantmaking.
- Balancing an ambitious vision with a realistic understanding of financial, technological, and human resources, the President and CEO will champion equity, diversity, inclusion, access, and belonging across all facets of the organization.
Organizational Stability
- Lead efforts to diversify and expand revenue streams, strengthening NALAC’s financial foundation through strategic fundraising and resource development.
- Working closely with the Board of Directors and staff, the President and CEO will identify new opportunities for philanthropic partnerships, corporate sponsorships, major gifts, and earned revenue while ensuring long-term sustainability.
Engagement and Advocacy
- Cultivate and strengthen key relationships across the arts, philanthropy, and public sectors, expanding the organization’s influence on a national scale.
- Advocate for Latinx/é artists and cultural workers, engaging in policy discussions, strategic alliances, and field-wide initiatives that elevate the role of Latinx/é arts in broader conversations.
- Effectively communicate with stakeholders, funders, and community leaders.
- Leverage technology to enhance outreach and engagement.
Management and Operations
- Foster a collaborative, high-performing organizational culture, ensuring staff are supported, motivated, and empowered to achieve strategic goals.
- Supervise financial management, board relations, and operational excellence, ensuring compliance with policies and regulations while maintaining fiscal responsibility.
- Work closely with the Board of Directors to provide strategic guidance, keep leadership informed on key developments, and ensure alignment between governance and organizational priorities.
Who are we looking for?
The President and CEO will have a deep appreciation for the transformative power of arts and cultures. This individual will possess strong cultural competency and the ability to engage effectively across diverse communities, organizational structures, and sectors. A collaborative, hands-on, and people-centered executive, they will excel at balancing priorities, allotting resources strategically, and fostering an environment that encourages innovation and adaptability while managing risk.
As a thought leader and connector, the President and CEO will bring a deep knowledge of Latinx/é history, arts, and cultural expression. They will leverage their expertise to elevate NALAC’s impact nationally. They will be proactive and results-oriented leaders capable of guiding the organization through growth and change while remaining grounded in its mission and values.
Top candidates will have the following qualifications:
- A minimum of 8 years of progressive senior leadership experience in the Latinx arts and cultures sector, with an established network of professional relationships.
- Proven success in fundraising, grantmaking, and advocacy, with a track record of securing resources and increasing institutional impact.
- Demonstrated experience in staff leadership, program development, and organizational growth.
- Ability to make effective connections among research, policy, and practice.
- Works productively with community-based organizations, individual artists, government, philanthropy, and academic institutions.
- Understands how to imbed community voices, lived experience, and power dynamics in the work of the team and in grantmaking.
- Commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, access, and belonging in all aspects of leadership and decision-making.
- Exceptional communication skills, with Spanish proficiency, are highly desirable.
Salary and Benefits
Salary: $160,000 - $185,000/year.
Benefits Package includes:
- Health insurance includes full premium coverage for FT employees and 25% for eligible dependents.
- Time Off: Holidays and flexible PTO that increases with tenure.
- Hybrid/Remote: Working arrangements are contingent on federal and state tax regulations. A minimum of one week per quarter of working in the San Antonio office. Travel, transportation, and accommodation will be provided.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
The work environment is an office. During working hours, intermittent physical activities include bending, reaching, sitting, and walking. Reasonable accommodations will be made to enable a person with physical disabilities to perform the job.
